Dr. David R. Huber, Ph.D., is the Founder and General Partner at Grande Ventures, LLC.

Dr. Huber has a distinguished career in venture capital and entrepreneurship and 19 years of experience in the development of optical communications systems.

Dr. Huber pioneered DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) optical technology and founded Ciena and Corvis to bring this revolutionary technology to market.

From February 1992 through April 1997, he served first as the Chief Technology Officer and later as the Chief Scientist at Ciena Corporation, a company he founded in 1992. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Broadwing Corporation (formerly, Corvis Corp.) from June 1997 to February 1, 2006 and served as the President from June 1997 to May 2002.

Prior to founding Ciena, Dr. Huber managed the Lightwave Research and Development Program at General Instrument Corp. from 1989 to 1992.

Prior to 1989, he held senior-level positions in optical communications development at Rockwell International Corp., General Instrument, Optelecom, Inc., and ITT Industries, Inc. Dr. Huber has been Chairman of Broadwing Communications, LLC since June 2003. Dr. Huber served as Chairman of CiDRA Holdings LLC (formerly, CiDRA Corp.) since April 1997 and serves as its Director.

Dr. Huber has been active in venture capital for nearly ten years providing funding for startup companies seeking angel investing to late-stage operational companies requiring additional funding to expand operations. Dr. Huber holds 41 United States patents in optics technology and has numerous additional patents pending. He earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University and a B.S. in physics from Eastern Oregon State University.

Ms. Tina Gascoigne is a General Counsel at Grande Ventures, LLC. She oversees all of the legal activities of the firm. Ms. Gascoigne previously served as the General Counsel at two other funds. Most recently, she served as the General Counsel at OCG Ventures. At OCG, Ms. Gascoigne also served as an Acting Counsel for a number of that fund’s portfolio companies including Dorsal Networks, Inc., Optinel Systems, Inc., and Covega Corporation.

She is currently a Member of the Board of Directors of a number of companies including Covega Corporation, Cidra Corporation, Autani Corporation, and Columbia Automation Controls, Inc. Ms. Gascoigne is a Board Observer of Cidra Corporation. She holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland, an M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore, and a B.A. degree in political science from New York University.
